'French Fries' is a type of potato that is cut up into smaller pieces and then fried it.It is the most common type of fast food seen today. From its name, many people think that it is originated from France. But it is actually from Belgium.
According to historian Jo Gerard.during the 1680's , the villagers of Belgium's Meuse Valley, they like to fry the fish that they caught and eat them with their meals. But during the winter,it was so cold that the river froze up and the villagers couldn't catch any fish. So,they fried cut up potato's as a substitute for the fish, and this is the birthplace of 'French Fries'.
Why are 'French Fries' called 'French Fries' although they came from Belgium?During the 1st World War when American soldiers passed by that village, they ate the French Fries and instantly fell in love with it.When they back to America, they told their friends and relatives how much they enjoyed the fries. So because during the 1st World War,Belgium was using French as their main language. So,they called the fries 'French Fries' instead of 'Belgium Fries'.
